Not only are we able to provide quick and reliable service, but we have the ability to work with our customers on cost. We have the R&D capacity to find out the perfect balance between material cost and material quality that still provided you with the robust fastener you need, but with low-cost materials.
Pole line and Power Utility fasteners are an integral part of wooden crossarm assemblies for utility poles. Fasteners are used to mount wooden crossarms to utility poles as well as line construction specialty products. These utility poles are found right outside of your business and home.
There are multiple head styles used for pole line and power utility applications. These head styles include hex head machine bolts, square head machine bolts, washer/flange head bolts, carriage bolts, and A325 & A490 structural bolts.
Custom Bolts with nearly any head configuration can be manufactured at Master Bolt. We have many years of experience with designing and manufacturing tooling in order to supply the customer with the fasteners they require. At Master Bolt, we offer heat treating, plating, nyloking, mechanical testing, and much more. Give us a call and speak with one of our knowledgeable staff members to discuss your next fastener bid.
Square Head Machine bolts are used for fastening pole line hardware and line construction specialty products to crossarm poles and other structures as well as attaching the wooden crossarms to the pole. Square head machine bolts have an added semi-cone point and a thread length unique to pole line fasteners depending on the length of the bolts. These bolts can be paired with corresponding nuts. Dimensions in accordance with ASME B18.2.1.

Washer Head bolts are used when the head of the bolt sits flush to a wooden member. The forged washer side provides a larger bearing surface so that when the bolt is tightened, the wood underneath the head is not damaged. Washer head bolts have an added semi-cone point and a thread length unique to pole line fasteners depending on the length of the bolt. These bolts can be paired with corresponding nuts.

Spool Studs are a unique pole line fastener. Forged with either a single or double integral washer upset at the insulator end (double upset spool stud is pictured). These fasteners are used for side-of-pole installation when supporting neutral conductors and secondary service wires.
These bolts are typically manufactured with 5/8-11UNC-2A rolled threads on both ends. Master Bolt has the capability to manufacture the spool studs at various lengths, diameters, grades of material and any other requirements can be discussed as well.

Carriage bolts are specialized for use in woodworking, typically fastening metal to wood. Carriage bolts are designed with a domed head, which can prevent loosening from one side, an enlarged head shape also prevents the bolt from being pulled through a wooden construction. These bolts can be paired with corresponding nuts.

1. ASTM F2329 – Covers the requirements for hot-dip zinc coating applied to carbon steel and alloy steel bolts, screws, washers, nuts, and special threaded fasteners applied by the hot-dip coating process.
2. ASTM A153 – Covers hot-dip, zinc coating on iron and steel hardware. In 2005, ASTM F2329 was created, which is a more appropriate specification regarding the galvanizing of threaded fasteners.
3. ASTM A123 – Covers the hot-dip galvanizing of iron and steel products made from rolled pressed and forged shapes, castings, plates, bars, and strips.
4. ASTM A307A – This specification covers carbon steel bolts and studs, which are your run of the mill, mild steel bolt manufactured from A36 round bar. A307A is the grade that most pole line fasteners are made to.
5. ASTM A325 – This specification covers high-strength, heavy hex bolts used in structural steel-to-steel connections. The A325 specification includes diameters ranging from 1/2” through 1-1/2” only. These bolts are intended for use in structural connections and therefore have shorter thread lengths than standard hex bolts.
6. ASTM A490 – A490 Bolts are intended for use in structural connections similar to ASTM A325, but being produced from alloy steel instead of medium carbon steel, possed high tensile strength.
