When we say we are all about continuous improvement at Master Bolt, we mean it! Today, we are talking about yet another new capability we have that can provide our customers with even more customizable fasteners for their industry's needs.
Near net formed parts is a new capability that we have that we haven't had in the past. We will be forming a part and then taking it to a secondary CNC machine to manufacture the part to the print of the customer requirements.
In the example in the video, you can see the before and after of an oversized part which has been machined with our new capability.
We machined the top of the head to meet the customer's specifications. This part here has much tighter tolerance that we could not hold on our forming machine, so we had to use a secondary operation.
The advantage of this is able to save a lot of raw material. So instead of starting with a hex bar stock, we were able to start with a smaller diameter round stock and form the head and then remove the raw material that's needed to get to the customer specification.
Another advantage is that this new process saves the customer a lot of money because we are not wasting materials, and we significantly cut down on labor costs. We're not spending a lot of time machining the hex down to the smaller diameter, which would make the cycle time a lot longer.
